FAQs

Where do you bag your salt & ice melt?

We bag all of our branded material right here in East St. Louis, IL with a semi-automatic bagging process. We started out as a bagged material supplier and pride ourselves on being one of the few who do not white label someone else’s salt. That means we have total quality control over the products we package from our 50lb bags to our 2000lb super sacks.

Why do you have bulk salt, but out of bagged salt if you bag your own materials?

We work closely with a large list of material suppliers from around the world to make sure we have salt available. Sometimes we run into a situation where the salt that is incoming has too high of a moisture content for our strict bagging standards. This is where super sacks may be useful if we are having stocking issues on products like Hi-Way or Commercial Ice Melt.

Do you carry liquid de-icers?

Yes! At this time, we carry dyed and undyed liquid Magnesium Chloride. This is a Compass Minerals product called FreezGard. It is a negative temperature product that works great in deicing and pre-wet systems. (Brine is coming soon!)

What brands of equipment do you carry?

We are always expanding our lineup and keeping a very close eye on the innovations of the snow and ice industry to make sure we are offering a wide range of products with every price point in mind. Right now, we are an authorized stocking dealer and installer for the following brands:

  • Buyers Products Company

    • SaltDogg Salt Spreaders

    • SnowDogg Snow Plows

    • DumperDogg Dump Bed Inserts

    • Tool Boxes

    • DOT & Warning Lights

  • Fisher

  • Hilltip

  • ARCTIC Razorback & Sno-Pusher attachments

  • SwapHogg Cable Hoist Bodies

  • DECKED

    • Drawer Systems

    • Cargo Glide Systems

Do you service equipment you don’t sell?

Absolutely! We have a small team of techs who have been in the industry for a long time, so there isn’t much we haven’t seen. We do everything from full hydraulic rebuilds, to standard installs on equipment we don’t sell here.

Built on a rock salt foundation.

Salt Industries was founded with a simple mission: to be the trusted local supplier of bulk and bagged rock salt for snow and ice removal professionals. From our earliest days, we built our reputation on reliability, fast turnaround, and a deep understanding of what contractors, municipalities, and property managers need to keep roads, lots, and walkways safe all winter long.

It All Started on a Tractor

Our story begins in 1982, when Jack Anderson, the founder of Salt Industries, started clearing snow at just 13 years old using his dad’s Ford 8N tractor. He plowed local parking lots and sidewalks for nearby businesses, laying the foundation for a lifetime dedicated to snow removal.

Through the following decades, Jack built a reputation for hard work, dependability, and deep knowledge of what it takes to get through Midwest winters. By the time the 2011 salt shortage hit, he and his team were running a full snow removal operation. When regional supplies ran dry, Jack’s team took matters into their own hands—purchasing rail cars of salt from New Mexico, using what he needed, and selling the rest to fellow contractors in need.

That moment changed everything.

Out of that critical winter, the idea that would become Salt Industries was formed. In 2016, we officially launched as a bulk and bagged salt distributor, focused on keeping local contractors and municipalities stocked and storm-ready. From the start, we built our business on urgency, reliability, and relationships—with service that matched our grit.

Salt Industries is Born

2018: A New Home for Snow Professionals

As demand for more than just materials grew, we expanded in 2018 by opening a parts showroom. This move now allows us to display snow plows, spreaders, truck upfit components, and serve as a one-stop hub for all things snow and ice control and beyond. Our team became known not just for supply, but for hands-on experience, installation support, and product education.

2020: From Materials to Machines

In 2020, we took a major step forward by partnering with Buyers Products Company, becoming an official distributor of SaltDogg Salt Spreaders. This opened the door for us to provide reliable, affordable salt spreaders for UTVs, pickup trucks, dump bodies, and municipal vehicles—backed by our growing in-house service and support capabilities.
